West Park 13
Percy Park 8
WEST Park gained their first league victory of the year with a dour home victory and at the same time condemned their North East visitors to relegation.
Opening brightly the home side had a series of forward drives which led to scrum-half Glen Kilvington crossing wide out. Peter Lloyd added a fine conversion against the wind.
Not for once Park's indiscipline let their opposition back into the game and Percy Park were rewarded with a penalty goal. From the restart Ralph Bennett made a surging run to gain the position for Peter Lloyd to slot over a penalty.
A further Lloyd penalty made it 13-5 at the break.
Knowing nothing less than victory would do, the visitors shaded the second-half in terms of possession but Park's solid defence, the meanest in the division, kept them out reasonably comfortably.
On a superb afternoon for rugby Park's only consolation was a victory although they will need to improve for next week's visit to promotion-chasing Driffield.

Otley 15
An Otley team made up of mainly Tongan players gained a hard-earned victory over holders West Park Bramhope.
The home side, with the wind at their backs, made the early running and took the lead with a penalty.
Park continued to have the better of things but the Otley defensive work was sound.
In their rare attacks Otley were wide with two penalty attempts but they were generally happy with a three-point deficit at half-time.
Otley used the wind in the second-half to set up attacking positions and after a number of near misses Chris Quinn completed a good move.
He added the conversion and a penalty shortly after.
Park rallied but the Otley defence held and when they took play to the home line Adrian Scott darted over in the corner to extend the lead.
Park worked hard to the end but could not breach a stubborn Otley defence and there was no further score.
The pack worked hard with Matt Lonsdale to the fore and Richard Leighton and Craig Leighton on the wings were a constant threat.
