An outdoor activity centre for community groups and families in crisis has been awarded a lottery grant. The Ponden Centre at Stanbury has been given £4,480 to pay for a replacement heating system, computer and printer. The building, which is run by a volunteer management committee, provides low-cost accommodation for youth groups and groups from disadvantaged communities.
It was last year threatened with closure because it had to find more than £4,000 for urgently-needed refurbishments. Local companies came forward to provide carpets, paint and storage heaters, allowing the centre to maintain its affordable rates for users.
