Kind-hearted people have raised more than £10,000 to help a youngster in his battle against cancer.

The cash has been donated to help six-year-old Jack Gales who is receiving treatment for his fight against leukaemia.

Family and friends set a target of £10,000 which has now been exceeded. Jack's mum Kate says: "We really have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Keighley who have rallied around to help Jack. We even had a card and note from a former Keighley man now living in Australia, who read about Jack on the Keighley News' internet page.

"The money will be donated to the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust who have given us tremendous support and helped to organise the two donor clinics at Cougar Park."

The search for a compatible bone marrow donor continues for Jack who has recently undergone a course of chemo-therapy and radiotherapy.

Kate says there has been no development so far with possible donors identified in Germany and Holland.

But she adds: "Jack returned to East Morton School recently, and he is thoroughly enjoying himself and happy to back with his friends at school."

There was also a treat for Jack's classmates who were presented with Cougars baseball caps.

The cheque for £10,000 will be presented to the charity at Cougar Park during half-time in the match against Widnes on Sunday, April 11.

A fundraising envelope draw will also take place during half-time with a top-of-the-range television one of the prizes up for grabs. Entry into the prize draw will be available through the turnstiles on match day at a cost of £5. Anyone who is unable to make the match can enter the draw by dropping into Cougar Park before the game.
