Cycling: Former West Yorkshire junior road race champion Tom Barras, who lives at Steeton and now rides for North East club Middridge CRT, scored his first win of 1999 in the Hartlepool CC Australian Pursuit.
The field was split into three groups according to ability, and Barras found himself in the scratch group which gave starts all round to riders of lesser ability.
It took the Barras group three-and-a-half out seven laps to catch the middle group, and then things got serious as they pursued the limit riders, taking another lap to catch them.
Just three riders were left to contest the final sprint which Barras won at the expense of Marcus Smith (Cleveland Wheelers) and Ian Wilkinson (Pace Racing), with Lloyd Kellett (Bronte Weavers) - another rider from the Keighley area - finishing sixth.
Former Yorkshire best all-rounder Dave Watts and Tim Horton from Keighley finished third in the Don Valley Two Up 25 in North Nottinghamshire. The pair, who ride for Halifax Racing Club, were more than three minutes down on the winner in 54-28.
Rod Newman and Nick Thorpe (Peter Read Racing) won in 51-18, over two minutes faster than the rest.
In the latest round of the premier calendar series, the Archer Grand Prix at Beaconsfield was won by Chris Walker (Linda McCartney Foods). The former Milk race winner got the better of Matthew Stephens (Harrods).
