Bradford Sunday Alliance: Oakenshaw's bid to become the second Alliance side to win the West Riding County Sunday Cup in three seasons was ended at Fleet Lane where they lost 3-1 to Selby-based Hounds'.
They were left reflecting on what might have been as they had three shots cleared off the line during the semi-final and another hit the woodwork.
The pre-match disappointment was that Oakenshaw's leading scorer Craig Lawford was unavailable due to an injury received while playing for Liversedge.
And after Karl Gray's shot was cleared by a Hounds' full back and Andy Kenton's free-kick hit the woodwork, Hounds, always impressive on the break, took a 23rd-minute lead.
Two more goals conceded early in the second half left Oakenshaw with an uphill task.
Mark Wilkinson's introduction sparked a revival and, after a lengthy period of attack, Oakenshaw pulled a goal back through Martin Carnell in the 82nd minute.
East Bowling Unity's 100 per cent Alliance Premier Division record was ended at Bradford Moor, where, in a match which could have gone either way, Unity were held 1-1. Guiseley striker Roland Egege cancelledout Andy Smith's goal.
Ventus did their Premiership survival hopes a deal of good by routing fellow strugglers Sandy Lane 8-1, Keith Turner finishing with four in a six-goal second half.
Sandy Lane look like being relegated along with Fairweather Green. Green couldn't halt their slump as Hudsons finished the stronger in the second half to complete a 4-1 win.
In the big match in the First Division, Wibsey WMC increased their lead to four points with two games to play after a 3-2 win over title rivals Stanley Road.
Goals in a 15-minute period by Jason Powell, Gary Andrew and a solo by Karl Yewdall put Wibsey well in command.
Road came stronger in the second half through a John Francis penalty and a last- minute David Hunter effort.
West Bowling, needing wins from all their remaining matches to ensure survival, beat Green Man 3-1.
Keeper Dave Rushworth pulled off a string of saves to play a vital part.
Lee Jeyes was outstanding in the heart of the East Ward defence against former club Peel Park Rangers as Ward won the Otley Road derby through Alan Morley's 25th-minute penalty.
Not for the first time this season, the Holmes family shared Thornton's goals with uncle Carl scoring two and his pacy nephew Phil netting the other as they went top of Division 1A for the first time with a 3-1 win over Nags.
It means they are now very much on course for a League and Cup double.
Westwood kept their hopes alive with a 4-1 win over former leaders Fire Brigade, Lee Innes - back in the attack - scoring twice.
While Wrose Bull, already assured of promotion, were comfortable 3-0 winners over Royal Oak, but likely Division 1B champions Craven Heifer moved three points behind them with four games to play after a 5-1 win at White Eagles.
After three successive defeats, which put them out of the promotion race, St Pats earned a point in a 3-3 draw with Woodman after coming from behind twice.
