Residents fear their quiet estate in a market town will be disturbed by noise, traffic and litter if permission is given for a shop change of use.
Plans have been submitted to Craven District Council for a cafe/hot food takeaway in a vacant shop in Cawder Green, Skipton.
Officers are recommending the planning committee, which meets on Monday, turns down the application after officers received a petition and 11 letters of objection.
A Council spokesman said: "Residents have raised a number of concerns. They say the shop would be better suited to a town centre location.
"They believe the proposed new use would create noise and disturbance, especially at night because of smells, traffic and car parking.
"And it would have an undesirable effect on the neighbourhood through increased litter and anti-social behaviour.''
He said officers believed the change of use would have an adverse impact on people nearby.
And there would be a problem caused by parking because there were no off-street parking spaces in the area.
