Athletics: Road runners will converge on the capital this weekend to participate in Sunday's Flora London Marathon.
Leading the local charge will be Bingley pair Colin Moore, who will be acting as group pacemaker for at least ten miles, and Steve Green, who hopes to improve on his 2hr 17min 16sec set in Monte Carlo last November. Also in blue and white hoops will be John Convery, Stewart McDonald and Graham Smith.
Chris Cariss will also run - he has a best of 2-43-00, while his mother Sue will lead the Bingley charge in the women. Moore's wife Shirley is also running, along with team-mates Barbara Carney, Ann Jebb and Helen Morrell.
Keighley and Craven pairing Martin Horbury and Laurence Hellawell are both poised for their first attempt at the distance, and have set ambitious sub 2-45 targets for themselves. Team-mate Paul Wakefield, however, is competing in the Boston Marathon. Bradford Airedale's in-form Andrea Dennison will be looking for that elusive sub-three hour time.
The Anniversary Waltz fell race in the Lake District kick starts the six-race British Fell Championship on Saturday, and forms the second race of the English Fell Championship.
Reigning champion Ian Holmes of Bingley is confident, but accepts that rival Gavin Bland (Borrowdale) is favourite. Bland's team-mate Simon Booth is also a danger to Holmes' bid for a unique fourth British title.
Bingley men will also be looking for a good team performance against champions Borrowdale, who have taken the title five times in six years.
Bingley have men in form - former British champion Mark Kinch and Rob Jebb were first and second at Pendle last week - but the 111/4-mile event, with 3,600 feet of ascent, will prove a tough nut.
Frances Noble (Bingley Harriers) came third in the triple jump for West Yorkshire with a leap of 6.94 metres in the finals of the National Reebok Sportshall Athletics Challenge at Birmingham's NIA.
Rebecca Long (Keighley) and Carly Wright (Wakefield) were third in the paarlauf in 1min 56.7sec, and there was a bronze in the under-15 boys for Oliver Brewer (Bingley) and Matthew Clay.
