Don't be surprised if Terrorvision look mystifyingly bronzed when they take to the stage for a long-awaited hometown gig tonight.

The four-piece, fronted by singer Tony Wright, have been relishing their first chance to perform in their native Bradford since notching up their biggest hit with the single Tequila.

The gig will also give them a chance to show off their suntans after flying back from Los Angeles where they performed live on Radio 1's Zoe Ball show as part of the station's Oscars coverage. "I'm extremely suntanned," said Terrorvision drummer Shutty.

"Me and Tony play quite a lot of tennis on tour and when we were over there was a tennis court on top of our hotel. It was amazingly hot and everyone thought it was a typical case of mad dogs and Englishmen."

The Mint Royale remix Tequila became Terrorvision's most successful single when it reached number two in the charts earlier this year.

Disappointment followed when Robbie Williams's European tour was cancelled - together with their support slot - but the band did still manage to enjoy a continental jaunt last week when they headlined a festival in Verviers, Bradford's twin town in Belgium.

Terrorvision have also played concerts in Dublin and Belfast this week before kicking off the UK leg of their tour at Bradford University tonight.

According to Shutty, playing before a hometown audience can be an ordeal.

"It's just as nerve-racking as a London gig where anyone who is anyone is there," he said.

"At Bradford it's family and friends and you're just as nervous but it's good fun to do a home gig."

Eyebrows were raised in some quarters when a rock band like Terrorvision hit the jackpot with a dance mix - but Shutty is proud of Terrorvision's versatility.

"I think it's really good that we can play with anyone. We can play with Robbie Williams or we can play at the big thing we're doing with Metallica in the summer," he said.

"We can be in Metal Hammer and Smash Hits, which is great. We never set out to do anything like that particularly. We just are what we are and it's still really enjoyable."

The band's new single III Wishes is due to be released on May 3.
