Ilkley U14s 4
Queensbury Celtic 1
ILKLEY Juniors Under-14s were looking to avenge the defeat inflicted upon them earlier in the season by League leaders Queensbury.
Tremendous credit goes to every player as they showed total commitment and concentration keeping their shape throughout closing down their opponents at every opportunity.
Goals certainly win matches but Ilkley's dominant display was built upon good team work especially in defence. The welcome return in goal of Daniel Smith saw the Queensbury threat dealt with bravely and with great composure.
Playing into the wind, captain Tom Ross-Jones, ably assisted by Ross Kennedy and Peter Hibbert, stuck doggedly to their defensive duties allowing the visitors few clear cut opportunities.
Meanwhile, at the other end, the hard-working Ilkley midfield continued to open up chances for Thomas Davidson and James Wilson. Live-wire Thomas Davidson produced one of his typical bursting runs before setting up his strike partner James Wilson for a close range opening goal.
Shortly afterwards Davidson again cut loose evading the defensive challenges before dispatching the ball beyond the 'keeper for Ilkley's second.
Having produced such a performance in the first-half it was excellent to see every player continuing to deny Queensbury any time or space to get back into the game.
After Man of the Match Ross Kennedy set up Thomas Davidson for his 34th goal of the season, closely followed by James Wilson heading his second of the game, Ilkley were assured of an impressive victory.
Queensbury did manage a lot consolation goal but on the day they were second best as Peter Hibbert and Dale Procter deservedly picked up Manager's Points in an excellent all-round performance.
