Eight members of Soroptimist International in Keighley have returned from a visit to Poland.

They joined members from all over Yorkshire to fly to Krakow at the invitation of the city's Soroptimist Club. The link between the two groups started some years ago when two members from Krakow spent time in Yorkshire. Since then the friendship has developed and several Krakow members have been sponsored to attend a language school in Leeds.

Money has been raised to send children from Krakow who needed a break from local pollution which has caused problems.

During their visit the Keighley members were taken on a visit to the mountains and to the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

At a gala dinner, the Yorkshire members presented a cheque for £1,000 for a special-care baby unit at a hospital in Krakow which some members visited.

Despite some language difficulties, the hospitality and friendship were overwhelming and Keighley members are hopeful that future visits will be possible.
