KEIGHLEY-BASED bike races have clocked up three rostrum places -- after just two rounds of the British Championships.

Shane Norval won the seocnd round of the 250cc Championship for team Colin Appleyard in a thrilling race at Thruxton.

Team manager Robin Appleyard said: Shane led throughut the second half of the race, and just managed to keep his tyre in front as four riders crossed theline within half a second."

It was a fantastic comeback for the South African who crashed out of the opening meeting at Brands Hatch while in third place.

Darren Barton, the team's 125cc hopeful has also been going well taking third places at both Brands Hatch and Thruxton, to leave him in secondplace overall in the championship.

Appleyard said: "The pre-season practice in Spain is certainly paying dividends. Much to the delight of our major backers, Honda UK, the bikes are working well, which gives the riders confidence to go out and perform to their best.

"We are now working to fine-tune the machines before the next round at Oulton Park on Sunday, April 25.

n Stock Car Formula 1 world champion Frankie Wainman Jnr won a lively 14-race meeting at Northampton at the weekend. He won the first race and was second in the next event before winning the final.

The victory came on top of a winning performance at Swaffam the previous evening.

"I've had a good weekend, it's been absolutely fantastic," he said.
