Keighley A 25, Yarnbury 30

Keighley's second string gave a rousing performance against the visitors 1st XI on Monday evening before being eliminated from the Aire-Wharfe Cup by a try by wingman Mather in the first half of extra time.

They got off to a spectacular start with an excellent try by wingman John Hinchliffe, after three minutes play with Michael Scarborough adding the conversion.

Yarnbury were soon on equal terms when wingman Bramham burst over for a try converted by Lee after a kick by stand off Whitehurst had set up play one metre from the Keighley line.

Keighley's young side was playing with great spirit and determination and after falling behind to a penalty goal by Lee a neat switch pass by scrum half Andy McGill set winger Warren Knowles on a silky run to the line for an excellent try improved by Scarborough.

Early in the second half Scarborough and Bramham exchanged penalty goals before a fine build up by backs and forwards ended in flanker Ieuan Morgan plunging over for a try in the corner.

A second penalty goal by Scarborough extended the lead to 12 points, but Keighley conceded two crucial tries in the final 10 minutes of normal time, firstly when stand off Whitehurst wove through a hesitant Keighley defence and then whilst scrum half Lee touched down a pushover try to which he added the conversion to tie the scores.

A tired Keighley defence allowed Mather to drive past several despairing tackles on his way to the match winning try. Keighley had the chances to regain the lead in the dying minutes but the visitors defence held out.
