Yorkshire's new Australian signing Greg Blewett and his opening partner Michael Vaughan were both dismissed by Dewsbury-born left-armer Mike Smith on the opening day of the championship season.
The double blow left Yorkshire reeling on 14 for two after Gloucestershire had won the toss and put them in to bat.
Groundsman Andy Fogarty and his staff did a magnificent job in mopping up after yesterday's deluge and the start was delayed for only half-an-hour.
Blewett pushed the first ball of the match from Smith confidently to mid-off but he knew little about the second which found the edge and went wide of Gloucestershire captain Mark Alleyne at second slip to the boundary.
Vaughan played Jon Lewis's first ball through square leg for two and four leg byes from the next delivery raced Yorkshire into double figures off only eight balls.
In Smith's next over, however, Vaughan drove quite lavishly down the wrong line and had his off-stump flattened.
The left-arm seamer was continuing his excellent start to the season, having taking nine wickets in Gloucestershire's opening match against Surrey, and Smith struck again when he moved a good-length ball away from Blewett and had him caught behind by Jack Russell.
Skipper David Byas, still not off the mark, was joined by Matthew Wood and the pair found batting difficult against the accurate attack of Smith and Lewis. The scoring had slowed right down after the early activity and with 12 overs gone Yorkshire were 20 for two.
