Sunday Alliance: Ventus United made a successful first appearance in the Alliance Senior Cup final with a 2-1 extra time win over holders East Bowling Unity.
The game had been only a minute away from penalties when Dale Hoyle turned to hit a spectacular 30 yard winner.
Unity had taken a tenth minute lead when centre half Andy McGowan headed home from a free kick. Ventus equalised on the half hour when, seizing on indecisiveness, Keith Turner's pace enabled him to race through to beat the advancing keeper.
There was some good news for Unity in the Premier Division. The two sides who can overtake them in the championship race, Oakenshaw and Bolton Woods, drew 3-3 which means that Unity now need three wins from five matches to clinch their first title since 1993/94.
Woods recorded a 4-3 win over Oakenshaw in midweek when they came back from 2-0 down and once again they finished strong with two goals in the later stages after being 3-1 down.
Brown Cow's scratch side slumped again. After Unity had hit 11 the previous week, Albion Sports scored eight without reply with Tariq Hussain being Albion's star player.
After leading the table since late November, Wibsey WMC are the First Division champions following a comfortable 5-0 win over relegated Chellow with the pacy Karl Yewdall scoring twice and other goals coming from old hands Gary Andrew, Mal Brown and Paul Ratnik.
Leading scorer Ian O'Grady scored twice as Green Man lost 6-4 to Milestone, a result which could clinch the third place spot for Milestone.
Undercliffe CC pulled the shock result in Division 1A by defeating leaders Fire Brigade 2-1. Westwood, needing to win all their matches to gain promotion, found themselves in early trouble, 3-1 down, at next to the bottom Bay Horse. Westwood recovered to go in front 4-3 at half-time and took the points 6-4.
Eccleshill United are ending their Division 1B campaign on a flourish. Two wins in midweek, including a 2-1 success at Springfield where goalkeeper Paul Jarvis donned a striker's shirt and hit one goal and made the other, was followed by a 5-3 win over champions Craven Heifer. Goals came from long-serving Laurie Gallagher and four-goal Richard Feeley.
