Angling: A field of 96 contested the fourth round of the teams of four Alliance League on the Huddersfield Broad Canal around Brighouse.
With most of the roach and skimmers occupied with spawning it was odd big fish that made all the framing catches. Geoff Cox (Bradford) was streets ahead of the pack with 16-8-0. Fishing pole and dendrobena over chopped worm on the Match Length he netted an 8lb carp, four perch, two pike and a chub. Tim Worsnop (Trabucco Halifax) was on the Long Length and fished pole and caster for a bream, a chub and ten quality roach in his 6-10-0.
A carp also made the bulk of third placed man Martin Whitfield's catch. The Four Casters angler had a four pounder on pole and caster on the scrapyard which along with five roach gave him 4-14-0.
John Mills (Anglers World) 4-12-0, Mick Bates (Gasbags) 4-10-0, Dave Hardy (Dick Clegg Bradford) 4-8-0. Teams Anglers World were victorious on the day with 83 points to give themselves a cushion going into the last match. Second were Old Bank A with 79, ahead of Tricast Calder 76, GTI Gold 75, Trevs of Wilmslow A 72 and Dick Clegg Bradford 69.
League Overall: Anglers World 293, GTI Gold 268, Trevs of Wilmslow A 266, Tricast Calder 244, Trabbucco Halifax and Dick Clegg Bradford both 229.
It was the odd big bream that made the difference for Keighley's 43 peg open on the Leeds Liverpool Canal at Silsden. Gordon Poole (Leeds) managed to locate two plus some small roach on pole and pinkie from peg 220 on the wides for a winning 5-15-8. Brother Bert Poole (DAM Brighouse Geers) also got among the calabs slipping his net under a near five pounder at peg 218. Again pole and pinkie proved its downfall. He went on to add a few tiny roach for his 5-11-0. Best catch was arguably that of Ian Exley (DAM Brighouse Geers) who used pole and punch at peg 214 for an all skimmer net of 4-11-8.
Stuart Wilson (Normark) 4-2-0, Roy Judson (KL Tackle) 3-3-0, Nigel Bower (Dick Clegg Bradford) 2-10-0, Pete Cuniffe (GTI Matchmen) was a runaway victor in the 26 peg Medlock Bridge Open on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Roaches Lock. Fishing pole and caster at peg 46 on the wides he netted three good tench, a bream, several small carp and some quality roach for his level 13-0-0. Best of the rest was team-mate Mick Shaw who had 3-6-0 of roach and perch to the same method on peg 30.
Stuart Wardle (GTI Matchmen) 2-3-0, Martin Taylor (GTI Matchmen) 1-10-0.
There was a slight upturn in fortunes for the 48 field in Goole AA's Open on the Selby Canal at Burn, Kevin Grainger (Dick Clegg Ossett) led from peg 53. Fishing pole with pinkie and casters tight to the far bank reed cover he netted a mixed haul of roach and small skimmers scaling 7-13-8.
