Cycling: Generally better known for his abilities against the watch, Gethin Butler, the new boy in the Team Men's Health pulled off an outstanding win in the East Riding of Yorkshire Classic Two Day at the weekend.

The race started with a 3.3 mile time trial in which riders from the Linda McCartney's Food Team filled the first three places led by Chris Walker in 6-19 who was followed by Russell Downing 6-22 and Jon Clay 6-25.

A 70-mile road stage was won by young Welshman Hugh Pritchard (Team Men's Health) which left him in the lead overnight.

With Pritchard in the lead, Butler felt free to improve his own position overall and went in front with 30 miles still to go.

He was joined by Barnsley's Wayne Randle (Pro Vision) and Julian Ramsbottom (Harrods).

In the closing stages, Butler rode away again and this time he stayed clear to win the stage overall by 50 seconds from Randle who out-sprinted Ramsbottom for second place.

At the end of what was an outstanding performance, Butler won the race overall by 46 seconds from Ramsbottom and 56 seconds from Randle.

On the Ledston circuit near Castleford, Andy Carr (Sowerby Brothers CRT) jumped away from a leading group of six with just over a mile of the 64-mile Leeds St Christopher's road race to win by 20 seconds.

The leading group of six went away after four of the 14 laps on the four mile circuit.

They remained unchallenged throughout and then, after topping the final climb of the day, Carr forged ahead to win by 20 seconds from Bradford rider Andy Critchlow (Team Chevin).

He won the sprint for second place ahead of Dave Micklethwaite (Sowerby Brothers CRT).

Richard Alhadeff (West Yorkshire Police) finished fifth while Lloyd Kellett (Bronte Wheelers) was tenth just over a minute down on the winner.
