A wagging tail was all the thanks terrier Pepe could muster when he was rescued after four days stuck in an underground cave.
But caving fan Neil Griffin wanted no more reward for his rescue staged after he read the Telegraph & Argus story about Pepe's plight.
The nine-year old dog fell down a crevice while on a walk with owner Pat Clough of Hope Lane, Baildon. To reach him Neil Griffin had to squeeze through an 18-inch gap.
Shipley firefighters went back to the scene last night to see if they could dig Pepe out after days of trying to entice him with the help of the RSPCA.
They found Mr Griffin, of Westfield Terrace, Baildon, staging his rescue, watched by his girlfriend.
Sub Officer Richard Hewitt said: "He slid into the gap in the wall and after a couple of minutes he shouted back, 'he's alive'. We passed him a line and he tied it to the dog."
Pepe was then pulled out of the hole by the fire crew.
Owner Pat said: "It's absolutely incredible and quite amazing. It was lovely to know he was out. He is a bit thinner but he wanted to walk with my other two dogs this morning."
Her daughter Sara Jessop said: "He is the luckiest dog alive. We are very, very happy."
