Families living on Swain House estate, Bradford, who say they have to wait years for repairs, could soon be in line for a better deal.
A new group has been set up to champion the cause of run-down smaller estates which have watched millions of pounds of regeneration cash pour into larger areas, including Holme Wood and Allerton.
The Small Estates Linking Association, which aims to improve conditions on Bradford's 250 small estates, will be holding its first meeting in the city next month.
Councillor Jim O'Neill, housing services sub-committee chairman, said today : "I would welcome their help in looking to put money into our smaller estates from whatever means, but I want them to be open-minded about this."
Organisers are urging residents to show their support for the new association. Chairman Mike Stocks said: "We would like to see the living conditions of every person in a council estate improve considerably.
"This is the first time that any attempt has been made to link the small estates to better their conditions. Resident participation is vital.''
The association's first branch, covering the Bradford south area from Wyke to Bankfoot, will meet on Wednesday, May 5 from 7pm at the Housing Office in the Low Moor Business Park, Common Road. For more information about Sela, contact Mr Stocks on Bradford 410781.
