A cabbie has gone on trial accused of indecently assaulting a woman passenger he picked up after a wedding celebration.

The 28-year-old woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was collected along with some friends after they had attended a reception following her father's marriage last June.

She described how her friends were dropped off before 36-year-old Gurdip Singh drove her back to her Undercliffe home in the early hours.

"I handed over the money that we had and he said that wasn't enough,'' she told a jury at Bradford Crown Court.

"He said if I didn't have enough money I would have to earn it. That's when I realised things weren't quite right.''

The woman described to the jury how Singh then drove her away in his minibus and said he was going to have sex with her.

"He was rubbing his hand over his trousers and that scared me because he was obviously getting sexually excited,'' she said.

The woman, who broke down in tears as she gave her evidence, claimed Singh put his hand up her skirt and also tried to grab her breasts. At one point she said she tried to get out at a red traffic light, but in her panic she could not find the door handle.

Singh eventually drove the woman back to his minicab office in Cottingley where she was comforted by the manager, who eventually took her home.

Singh, of St James Drive, Horsforth, has denied charges of kidnapping and indecent assault.

During cross-examination by Singh's barrister, the woman estimated that she had drunk about 14 glasses of wine during the day. She conceded that she was emotional and a bit drunk at the end of the night.

The trial continues.
