A former detective who worked on the Yorkshire Ripper case is one of four men arrested by Bradford detectives earlier this year in connection with an alleged conspiracy to corrupt a police officer.
John Boyle, 62, from Wyke, was arrested in January along with a 34-year-old man from Idle, a 32-year-old man from Manchester and a 45-year-old police officer from Wakefield. All four are still on police bail pending inquiries. Mr Boyle, a former Detective Inspector, was a member of the Ripper investigation team and the officer to whom Sutcliffe eventually confessed.
His solicitor Kerry Macgill, who also represented Sutcliffe, said: "I can confirm I am acting on behalf of Mr Boyle, but my client does not wish to make any comment at this stage."
