EXPANSION plans at an Otley car dealership have won approval, despite concerns over late-night deliveries.
Massingberd (Otley) Ltd got the green light to add to its Leeds Road premises from members of Leeds City Council's plans west sub-committee.
But the decision was deferred for planning officers to seek restrictions on the hours companies were allowed to deliver parts to the Volkswagen garage.
Otley and Wharfedale
Councillor Phil Coyne said although he agreed with the recommendation for approving the plan, he remained
worried about delivery times.
"They are late at night, sometimes around 1am, and they do make considerable noise which affects the side street facing the garage," he said.
"I would like us to be
looking for time restrictions between 7am and 9pm."
The bid was handed to
principal planning officer Martin Sellens, who said he would be talking to Massingberd about limiting delivery times.
"It may take some time but we will be working on it," he added.
The single-storey showroom extension is part of a £500,000 upgrade which Massingberd bosses say is vital to secure a new Volkswagen franchise.
It has caused controversy among residents who say
traffic problems caused by
on-street parking are already considerable on Leeds Road without adding to them.
But committee members were told this week that the road could cope with double parking and the extension would not cause further
problems.
In public meetings held
earlier this year, company chief executive Mike Massingberd promised to hold regular sessions with
residents to overcome parking and delivery problems.
He said at the time: "We have no intention to upset anyone. We want to talk with our neighbours and we want to talk with our staff."
