AFTER securing the Craven League title for the second time in two years Ilkley Juniors Under-13s ended their season with a football tour to Fleetwood kitted out with new training tops kindly sponsored by the Crescent Hotel and bar in Ilkley.
Their first game produced a quality performance against Severnside (Gloucs) with goals from Flynn and Thompson giving a deserved 2-0 win.
The second game was a much more testing affair against Manchester and having taken a two-goal lead courtesy of Tom O'Donnell. Ilkley let the lead slip in the closing stages to eventually draw 2-2.
Before the final game of the day the squad took refuge from the heat in the local pub merely to watch the Rugby League final.
Returning to the action after a break Ilkley needed a convincing victory to secure a finals place but on this occasion were unable to raise their game and lost to a determined Grove Farm (Birmingham) side despite consolation goals from O'Donnell and Caddick.
The spirit within the squad ensured this did not detract from our weekend of enjoyment and with highly competitive matches of ten-pin bowling, golf and boating over the weekend, an enjoyable time was had by all.
Special mention should go to John Caddick for running out a convincing winner of the cabaret/disco dancing competition on the opening night, and Patrick O'Donnell (senior) for his special type of celebration when winning the club bingo.
The squad of players would like to thank all those parents who made this possible especially those who came on tour and ensured the smooth running of the tour.
