A collection during St George's Day celebrations in Haworth raised £30 for the appeal for cash to buy a historic Bront letter.
Haworth Traders passed a donation bucket around visitors who were listening to a poetry reading in the village.
The money will go towards a £50,000 fund to buy Charlotte Bront's 150-year-old letter revealing her feelings about the deaths of her brother and sisters.
Mike Hill, director of the Bront Parsonage Museum in Haworth where the sisters lived, says the collection was a simple and spontaneous action.
"This is a clear demonstration of the community working together and we are extremely grateful for the support from Haworth Traders," he says.
Bradford council last week agreed to support the Bront Society's efforts to gain a National Lottery grant to help buy the letter.
