A RATHER unusual Dales property has been put on the market.
Estate Agent Tim Wilman has been instructed to offer for sale the old Cracoe Village Hall, or the Rylstone District War Memorial Hut, as it should strictly be described.
"We are of course only selling the timber and not the plot itself bearing in mind that the adjacent newly-built village hall is on the point of completion," said Mr Wilman.
The old hut has an interesting history. It was the gift of Lieutenant Colonel WW Maude, of the Fleets, Rylstone, in memory of local men and his two sons who died during the First World War.
It came from the old prisoner of war camp in Skipton. In fact Col Maude acquired two huts at his own expense - one and a half of which was erected on the present site. The other half served as Arncliffe Village Hall for many years until the opening of its existing building.
Mr Wilman believes that the hut would be suitable for a wide range of sporting, social or cultural organisations and should have a long lifespan. The new owner would be expected to dismantle and remove the building and restore the plot to a green field site.
All offers and inquiries should be directed to Wilman and Wilman in Main Street, Cross Hills, tel 01535 637333.
