Angling: Kevin Grainger (Dick Clegg Ossett) is the new Selby Canal champion after topping a 77-peg entry on the Goole AA stretches.
The canal was back to good form with roach and skimmers feeding well throughout, and many competitors drawing the seldom fished Gateforth end of the canal reported losing hefty chub.
Drawn seven pegs below Burn Road Bridge, Grainger fished tight to the far bank greens with 12.5 metres of pole.
Picking off roach and the odd skimmer throughout, he finished with a net of 9-10-0, which was worth over £200.
Team-mate Dave Harrison took an-other hefty wedge in the direction of Ossett with his runners-up bag of 8-4-8.
Drawn on peg 43, he had to fish a bit longer than the winner to reach the far bank cover, but his hard work was rewarded with skimmers to a pound and some quality roach falling to caster for his 8-4-8.
Andy Barker did well for his new backers Vanguard Harlequins, taking third place from peg eight next to the winner.
He chose to fish pole and pinkie and, although he had more fish, they were smaller stamp, leaving him short on 7-15-0.
Other weights: Mick Lodge (Dick Clegg Ossett) 7-8-8, Chris Dennis (DAM Brighouse Geers) and Ray Wilkinson (Bradford ) both 7-1-0.
The 48-entry Woodlands Open was again fished on the newly-opened Sky-lark and Partridge Lakes with encouraging results. The lake's silver fish population now seem to have settled down, with plenty of species other than carp featuring in catches.
Andy Waistell (Elton Tackle) is rapidly becoming the man to beat, taking another win from peg 16 on Partridge. Fishing long pole and maggot, he had a mixed bag totalling 37-14-0.
John Battersby (MAP Elton) took second from Skylark 21 with another pole caught bag of small carp scaling 36-5-0.
Other weights: Gary Skelley (Dick Clegg Ossett) 33-7-0, Alan Menzies (MAP Elton) 30-11-0, Bill Blythe (Middlesbrough Newman Scotts) 26-3-0, John Allerton (Tricast Elton) 24-15-0.
Following good midweek roach action, an influx of chocolate coloured rainwater meant that bream dominated the 41-peg Medlock Bridge Open on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Roaches Lock.
Donald Pierson (Thornhill CPM) netted five, plus a couple of perch from peg 40 by the lights. Fishing pole with caster over worms, his winning net scaled 16-5-0. On peg 46, Barry Wright (Oldham AC) used the same tactics, netting four slabs for 15-10-0.
Other weights: Nick Naum (Gilders Tackle) 6-11-0, Paul Booth (GTI Matchmen) 6-9-0, Ian Wilcox (Trabbucco Halifax) 5-6-0, Stuart Wardle (GTI Matchmen) 4-0-0.
The 23-entry Slaithwaite Open on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Barnoldswick went to Colin Smith (Trabbucco Halifax). Pole and caster led to him netting two good bream, plus some roach and perch, for an easy win with 9-15-0. Second place went to Steve Adams (Bradford) with 3-3-8 of skimmers and perch.
Other weights: Tim Moran (Bradford) 2-12-0, John Sedgewick (Saltaire) 2-5-0, Chris Lees (Saltaire) 2-3-0.
