People power is bidding to stop a company from continuing to dump household waste at a controversial disposal site.
Wastepoint has been given permission to carrying on dumping at Manywells Quarry in Cullingworth which reaches the end of its life this year.
Villagers, spurred on by the success of anti-waste campaigners in Denholme, now want to stage a referendum to have the firm's licence revoked. And a meeting will be held tonight at Cullingworth Village Hall at 7.30pm to gauge support for the plans.
Russell Sikora, managing director of Wastepoint, refused to comment.
But Dianne Marshall, 54, of Cullingworth Road, said: "The smell is horrendous. Friends have been coming to the house and asking what the smell is.
"I have tried to garden but have had to keep coming back in the house because the smell is so bad and it's on a daily basis."
A spokesman for Bradford Council said: "If residents want to call for a referendum the first step is to convene a parish meeting. The support of at least ten electors is one of the main requirements."
An environment agency spokesman said: "The company has applied for an extension of the site and this went through the planning process. The licence has been granted though not issued as yet.
"In the last three months there has been a problem of odour though the company has been quite cooperative with the agency to address the problem."
