Stock Cars: The sixth World Championship Qualifying Round held in Stoke saw Silsden's Frankie Wainman Jnr retain control at the head of the qualifying points chart despite a poor meeting by his own standards.
Wainman holds a 46-point advantage over second-placed Ray Witts of Chorley after scoring a heat fifth and a final eighth. He did record a win the Grand National, although this race does not count towards the World Championship.
Ken Hopes (Huddersfield) was third in his heat and others to qualify for the final were Frankie Wainman snr, Mark Webster of Leeds and Huddersfield's Phil Smith.
Smith placed sixth in the final with Wainman snr seventh. In the Grand National, Webster was second with Hopes fourth. Chris Brocksopp (Leicester) was victorious in the heat and final.
West Yorkshire provided one race winner at Northampton, Steve Booth of Huddersfield taking victory in Heat Three. Wainman jnr had three seconds and a third.
This weekend the UK Open Championship is staged at Skegness (Saturday 7pm, Sunday 1pm).
This is one of the few titles Wainman jnr has never won. Defending champion is Kettering's Murray Harrison (Kettering).
