Super League are taking rugby league into rugby union heartland by staging the Bradford Bulls clash with London Broncos at the home of Allied Dunbar Premiership champions Leicester Tigers.

Beaten Challenge Cup finalists London Broncos have switched their home game against the Bulls on Wednesday, July 28, from The Stoop to Welford Road.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the JJB Super League to a new, live audience," said Super League managing director Maurice Lindsay.

"Welford Road has a superb atmosphere, and I'm sure Leicester supporters will be thrilled by these two great Super League teams."

Leicester Tigers chief executive Peter Wheeler said: "This is another opportunity to see top-class rugby at Welford Road.

"The idea of staging a quality match in the summer gives us a chance to get more use out of our stadium at a time when things are normally quiet and that, coupled with the excitement that is Super League, should provide excellent entertainment.

"I'm sure everyone will enjoy the best that Super League has to offer.

"It will be especially interesting to see how the public in a rugby union stronghold take to Super League in light of the fact the barriers which were once between the codes no longer exist."

And the decision was welcomed by Bulls media manager Stuart Duffy who said: "It will mean a lot more of our fans will be able to travel.

"Welford Road is a great rugby ground and Leicester is a real rugby city."
