Bradford City have released midfield player Craig Ramage before the end of his contract.

The 29-year-old former England under-21 international, signed from Watford on a free transfer in the 1997 close season, has been paid up to the end of his contract which was due to expire this summer. He is now a free agent.

Chairman Geoffrey Richmond said City had spent £350,000 this season in settling the contracts of John McGinlay, Edinho, Robert Zabica, Dennis Sepp, David Donaldson, Lawrence Davies and Ramage.

Swedish striker Robert Steiner has returned to the club after helping Walsall to gain promotion to the First Division during a loan spell.

But City are keen to sell the 25-year-old player who had a cartilage operation yesterday. They are inviting offers in the £400,000 range.

Although Steiner had a useful loan spell at Walsall, the club made no move to buy him on a permanent basis, but Reading are thought to be interested. He still has another year of his contract to run at City.
