A FORMER Yeadon man travelled to Guiseley last week with the new UniBond Premier League soccer champions Altrincham and, although joyous at his side's achievement, he was unhappy to see that his old school had been demolished.
Alan Johnson, 71, was born in Yeadon and attended Aireborough Grammar School. After spending his working life in Australia he has returned to this country to spend his retirement near to his daughter and grandchildren in Altrincham.
Mr Johnson is the webmaster for Altrincham's web site (www.altyfc.u-net.com) keeping supporters far and wide up to date with what is happening at the club, which has just gained promotion to the Vauxhall Conference.
Mr Johnson said Altrincham had enjoyed their day out at Guiseley where, despite being beaten by Bobby Davison's side, they celebrated their championship success.
'I was however greatly disappointed to see that Aireborough Grammar School had been pulled down,' said Mr Johnson.
l The Wharfedale Observer's report of the match at Guiseley was put on to the Altrincham web site.
