Burley Middle School is riding the crest of a wave as it celebrates further national recognition.
The school's commitment to the environment has already pushed it into the frame for a top Internet award and now there is further good news.
The school will receive £3,000 as part of the Barclays New Futures scheme, in recognition of its imaginative community project.
Burley Middle School was chosen from among 300 applications.
Students will select locally, nationally and internationally significant dates from history which will be turned into a millennium history trail.
They will conduct research, plan the route, design and install the signposts and write a booklet to accompany the walk.
Roger Hollway, deputy head teacher at Burley Middle School, said: "By the year 2001 this school will have closed but the trail will be a lasting community memorial to the building, staff and pupils who were educated there."
"It will be the children's own work. The trail will have aspects of millennium history, history which we will try and relate to Burley-in-Wharfedale," he said.
The school's success has led to congratulations from former Blue Peter presenter Diane Louise Jordan, who has supported the scheme for several years.
She said: "Well done to the students of Burley Middle School, you're going to have lots of fun."
The news comes as parents, pupils and staff gather at the school this evening to view the International Schools Cyberfair ceremony in San Francisco, USA - over the Internet.
For the second year running, Year Eight's web project entry has made it through to the finals of the competition.
Think Global - Act Local has been entered in the Environmental Awareness category.
A small section of the site chronicles the village's recycling campaign which the school has run for the past 10 years until it ended last month.
Pupils, staff and parents will 'attend' the awards via Real Audio and a telephone link.
Parents of pupils in Year Eight and Year Six are invited to attend the Cyber evening.
Year Six parents are invited to the school between 8pm and 9pm. Year Eight parents between 9pm and 10pm.
The ceremony takes place between 1pm and 2pm (San Francisco time) 9pm-10pm in Burley-in-Wharfedale.
