The auction of a print of what is said to be the best goal scored at Turf Moor, the home of Burnley Football Club, raised £200 at a fundraising night for Manorlands. The event - a 70s and 80s night - was organised by Keighley woman Rachel Mace in memory of her mother Kathleen Hopkins who died at the Oxenhope cancer-care hospice in January 1997.
The evening featured a band, disco, and raffle. Two signed Bradford City football shirts raised £130. "I would like to thank everyone who contributed, especially Taywood Homes," says Rachel. Altogether the night raised £1,450 for Manorlands.
During the event, at Great Horton Working Men's Club in Bradford, Rachel and friend Alison Bartram performed an 'Abba' routine which resulted in £123.64 being thrown in.
to a bucket.
"I think we got that much to get us off the stage," joked Rachel.
The signed print is of a goal scored by Burnley centre-half Tommy Cummings on January 19, 1952, against Newcastle United at Turf Moor. Cummings robbed Newcastle's Jackie Milburn at the edge of his own penalty area, ran the full length of the pitch and crashed as hot into the net.
