Local Cricket: Farsley, East Bierley and Undercliffe are setting a hot pace at the top of the Secure Trust Bank Bradford League First Division.

All three won as they continued their good starts to the season.

Farsley, who were beaten by East Bierley last week after three straight victories, returned to winning ways with a 102-run success at Bankfoot.

After losing their first four wickets for only 23, they recovered with a sixth-wicket stand of 61 between captain John Goldthorp (42) and Matthew Barnes (45) which enabled them to reach 178 for seven.

Bankfoot also made a bad start, losing their first five wickets for 36, but they never recovered and were bowled out for 76. Tony Gilkes took four wickets and Australian Anthony Blackwell, three.

East Bierley and Undercliffe remain equal second following comfortable wins.

Bierley had little trouble beating last season's Second Division champions Cleckheaton by eight wickets after bowling them out for 114. Overseas pace bowler Jaffar Nazir took five for 35.

Last season's runners-up Bail-don beat Hanging Heaton by six wickets in a low-scoring match at Jenny Lane.

Off-spinner John Marshall continued his excellent early season form by taking five for 19 in 15.4 overs as Hanging Heaton were dismissed for 100.

Baildon struggled in reply, losing their first four wickets for 45, but an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 56 between Paul Spragg (54) and Simon Davies (18) saw them home in only 22.5 overs.

Pace bowler Adrian Rooke took six for 36 as Pudsey St Lawrence beat defending champions Brad-ford and Bingley by 57 runs.

Pudsey, who had Yorkshire left- arm pace bowler Paul Hutchison making his return after a back injury, totalled 168 for eight before dismissing Bingley for 111.

Spen Victoria moved off the bottom after recording their first win against Brighouse.

After bowling out the visitors for 155, Spen were coasting at 149 for four when paceman James Stansfield took four wickets for one run - including dismissing top-scorer Steve Bethel for 51 - before winning by two wickets.

Second Division leaders Yea-don destroyed second-placed Manningham Mills by 203 runs.

Opener Neil Elvidge was the day's top scorer with 153 as Yea-don totalled 262 for four before bowling out Mills for a paltry 59.

Saltaire are now second after a two-wicket win in a low-scoring match at Morley.
