Cycling: Bolton rider Andrew Yates (unattached) won the 50-mile Keith Simpson Memorial Race at Batley, relegating Bradford rider Martin Russell (Paul Milnes RT) into second place 15 seconds adrift.
Yates and Russell led from early on, opening up a gap of over a minute. On the final lap, Russell lost contact with Yates, who won by 15 seconds.
In the supporting race over 35 miles, Matthew Lythgoe (Ribble Valley) won a two-man sprint against Paul Feeney (Leigh Premier), with third place going to Richard Maughan (Preston Wheelers) and VC Bradford sprinter Richard Craddock.
Joel Wainman (Peter Read Racing) won the Yorkshire Ladies CA Open Ten-Mile Time Trial in North Yorkshire in 21min 52sec against the clock.
Laurie Holmes (Morley CC) was just three seconds slower in second, with Leeds rider Dave Thomas (JS Orion) third in 22-26.
The team prize went to the Yorkshire Road Club trio of Greg Dodd Phil Hurt and Stan Mills.
In the Yorkshire Veterans 30-Mile Time Trial Championship, 44-year-old John Bungtin (West Pennine) produced the fastest time at the distance so far this year to win in 1hr 4min 2sec.
Bungtin won by over two minutes from 57-year old John Black-er (Rockingham CC) 1-6-19 and Mike Shacklock (Otley CC) 1-6-48. Brian Haskell, 70, of Huddersfield Road Club, clocked 1-10-53 to win the age standard award with a plus of 28-7.
After winning the Yorkshire Ladies Open event, Wainman finished second in the Scala Wheelers 25 in North Nottinghamshire.
Wainman clocked 52-41, but lost out to John Charlesworth (South Yorkshire Police), who won in a personal best 51-18. Jill Reames (Swaledale CC) was the fastest woman in 58-20.
East Bradford Cycling Club will promote this year's National 25-Mile Time Trial Champion-ship at Boroughbridge on Sun-day, June 6 (9am) as part of their centenary celebrations.
The field is restricted to the fastest 120 riders, and the Bradford Club have attracted 180 entries.
Among them are reigning champion Rob Hayles, British Best all-rounders champion Kevin Dawson from Doncaster and Jon Clay (Linda McCartney Foods). Locals entered include Eddie Taylor, from the promoting club, and Andy Critchlow (Team Chevin).
