An Addingham Millennium project is starting to gather momentum as the village civic society looks to end the nightmare of George Street.
Back in January, the civic society revealed a plan to improve George Street, a popular route for shoppers - but an increasingly hazardous one.
Years of wear and tear have seen the surface gradually crumble, revealing the old cobbles beneath. George Street is a private road and the Council is not responsible for maintaining it.
The society's Millennium scheme received the thumbs-up from George Street residents and businesses.
Don Barrett, chairman of Addingham Civic Society, is anxious to keep the ball rolling.
He said: "Our plans for improving George Street are now taking place. There has been much discussion about what materials to use. Following a meeting with the residents it has been agreed that the surface will be riven York stone paving with a relieving strip of sets along each side."
He is not yet prepared to put an exact amount on the cost, but it will be 'thousands' of pounds.
He said the project already had about a third of the necessary funding and other sources, such as trusts, charity grants and the National Lottery will all be explored.
