Paul Jewell says he has drawn up an initial list of potential summer targets as Bradford City prepare for their first season in the Premiership.

However, the City boss has dismissed speculation linking him with a host of names since the Bantams won promotion to the top flight a little more than two weeks ago.

These supposed targets have included former Manchester City star Georgiou Kinkladze and Everton's on-loan striker Kevin Campbell, but Jewell insists this kite-flying is well wide of the mark.

The City boss, who has just returned to Bradford after seven days in Majorca with his team, said: "These newspapers must know something I don't because these players are not the ones I believed I had targeted. One of the papers seems to be having a bit of fun because their two headlines were 'Jewell's Kinky move' and 'Jewell goes Camp'.

"I thought my secret was out until I read the reports!

"Seriously, I spoke to the chairman yesterday and we have drawn up a list of players who we want to bring to Valley Parade."

City have also been linked with Bristol City striker Adi Akinbiyi in the last couple of days, but Jewell will not comment on which players are on his list of summer targets.

However, the City chief is resigned to being linked with every available player.

And he believes this speculation will continue unabated until the new season kicks-off.

He said: "It appears that some people and newspapers are getting carried away with regards how many new players we are going to be bringing in.

"I discussed the direction of the club in the coming weeks with the chairman, and we will not jeopardise the financial stability to go out and spend 'x' amount on million-pound players.

"We know we need a bit of quality here and there, but we also have to be realistic.

"What is important is that the spirit of the squad is maintained.

"That has been tremendous for 12 months and we know we will need that in the Premiership.

"The players were good enough to get out of the First Division, but we know we need extra talent if we are to survive in the Premiership next season."
