Bradford Council has been blasted for the second time for its failure to act over a water leak reported in September last year.

The Council told the Telegraph and Argus on May 4 that it intended to get a plumber to fix the leak as soon as possible.

But yesterday furious Don Crabtree of Parkway, Bradford, branded the Council "a disgrace", saying nothing had been done to fix the faulty tap at an empty unit in a block of flats.

Mr Crabtree of Parkway, West Bowling, said: "Our water rates have been going up and up and we've received circular after circular from Yorkshire Water telling us to conserve water.

"We have also received reports from Yorkshire Water about the millions of pounds they are spending dealing with leaks.

"But the Council has admitted that this is its responsibility and hasn't done a thing about it even now. I think their attitude is an an absolute disgrace. They appear to have taken absolutely no notice at all."

Mr Crabtree added that he had reported the leak at the Fenwick House block of flats six times since he noticed it last Septmeber - and the problem may have started even before then.

"There must have been thousands of gallons of water lost because it isn't as if it is just a trickle. The water is actually running.

"The council promised when the T&A highlighted the problem last month that it would make sure that caretakers who were in the area every week would look out for problems and report them to the local housing office."

A Yorkshire Water spokesman said they had taken action to deal with their own leaks and hoped the local authority would do the same.

A spokesman for Bradford Council's Newall Street Neighbourhood Housing Office said: "A plumber went to the occupied flat where we though the overflow was coming from but he found that the problem actually stemmed from a different address.

"He is due to investigate the problem again today or tomorrow and fix it as soon as possible."
