Two Wharfedale men have been presented with long service awards for their work helping servicemen and women in the armed forces.
Dennis Coplestone, of Brighton Road, Ben Rhydding has worked as a
caseworker for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) in Ilkley for over 20 years which is part of the charity's Otley Division.
He has visited service men and their familes offering support and advice on any hardships or problems they face.
Bill Eagleston, of Stocks Hill, Menston has completed 10 years service as Division Secretary for Bradford SSAFA. He served in the Green Howards during the war and then spent over 25 years in the health service.
David Dennis, publicity officer for SSAFA in West Yorkshire said: "We look after many thousands of people each year - from 90-year-old pensioners to two-week-old babies. In fact, up to 14 million people throughout the country have either served in the forces or are relatives of those who have.
"We have offices in Leeds and Bradford and anyone in Wharfedale seeking our help will find our number in the telephone directory."
He added: "Our West Yorkshire volunteers dealt with over 1,000 cases last year which included giving financial support and advice, disability support and offering companionship to members of the armed forces and their
families."
The event took place at Bradford City Hall before Lord Savile, SSAFA County President who served with the Duke of Wellington Regiment in Burma during the Second World War.
Civic leaders from across West Yorkshire attended the ceremony to show their respect for the work carried out by the local volunteers.
