Police are to renew action against Haworth youths all-egedly drinking, taking drugs and smashing bottles in the Mill Hey area.

Residents of Gas Street complained to last week's Haworth Neighbourhood Forum about the problems caused by a number of youths. They were accused of threatening behaviour and anti-social activities including breaking bottles from nearby bottle banks.

The residents stressed that the young people lived in the area and said parents should take more responsibility for their children.

The Community Action Team from Keighley police has already tried to solve the problem over the past few weeks. The officers are now preparing a revised action plan because they feel the original strategy does not seem to be working.

Residents at the forum heard that the government is expected to make a decision on the proposed Haworth parish council within the next two months. If approval is given by the government, Bradford council will then consider whether to give approval too.

It is anticipated the first parish council elections would be held in May 2000.

A new bus service could be run between Keighley railway station and the villages of Oxenhope and Haworth. Keigh-ley Business Forum is working on the plan with bus company Keighley and District Travel and train company Northern Spirit. The plan, which would aim to relieve pressure on traffic at peak commuter times, was supported by residents at the neighbourhood forum.

Oxenhope parish councillors have invited the Business Forum to speak to them about the scheme.
