We don't believe it. They've done it again.

First of all it was Great North Eastern Railways which wiped Keighley off a main rail timetable.

It led to an apology - which though graciously accepted is of little or no use until the timetable is reprinted.

Now on our very own doorstep the Yorkshire Tourist Board has left Keighley off the map.

In the tourist board's Coach Guide to Yorkshire there's no mention of the town, with only a brief mention of our great attractions.

Rubbing salt into the wound is the Group Organiser Travel Trade Directory, which takes us into the new Millennium. In that publication Keighley is mentioned but is wrongly spelled.

Massive amounts of time, energy and money have been put into boosting the Keighley area and putting it on the map. In fact the initiatives have been praised throughout the world and attempts made to replicate the drive and enthusiasm. Much of the encouragement came from the tourist board.

KWVR chairman Graham Mitchell sums it up when he says that all of the local attractions are spending fairly substantial amounts on advertising with the Yorkshire Tourist Board, and it is disappointing to see such gobbledegook.

A full and frank explanation is needed, along with fulsome apologies when this matter has been looked into. If indeed the Yorkshire Tourist Board is responsible, then a special leaflet with an apology should be printed and sent to all those who have received the brochures.

It is also most welcome that the Keighley and Haworth Tourist Management Group has decided to remain a single body. United we stand.
