HUSBAND and wife Harry and Christine Mason will be a unique double act when they become Bradford's new civic heads next week.
It is the first time that two serving councillors will be installed as Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress.
And when Councillor Harry Mason dons his official robes at the Council's annual meeting next Tuesday, May 25, he will be following in the
footsteps of his great-uncle Thomas Blythe, who was Lord Mayor in 1921.
Coun Mason said: "I was proud of this bit of family history, but I never dreamed that one day I would add to it. This is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me."
Mr Mason became a councillor in 1994, closely followed by his wife who was elected two years later.
They are both Labour councillors for Queensbury where they have lived since they
married 29 years ago.
Mr Mason said: "Our roles will be civic rather than political and we both regard it as a great honour to be chosen to represent Bradford in this way."
Mrs Mason said: "We know it will be very hard work but we are looking forward to it
enormously."
