TWO local anglers are among those chasing a possible £15,000 jackpot - one of the biggest prizes in angling history - in next month's grand final of the Embassy Challenge in Denmark.
Stewart Holt, a 39 year-old site manager from Back Lane, Guiseley, and Stephen Aldridge, a 46 year-old mechanic from Intake Lane, Rawdon, finished third in the qualifier on the River Withan at Kirkstead. The pair fish for DAM Brighouse.
In Denmark a top prize of £6,000 awaits the winning pair in the two-day Embassy Challenge final which will be fished on two magnificent lakes in Jels, South Jutland, on June 7 and 8.
Five pairs from each heat went through to the final after over 4,000 anglers entered the competition and 40 pairs in the final will enjoy an all expenses paid eight day trip to Denmark.
They will be based at the superb Tre Roser Hotel in the lovely city of Kolding which is an hour's drive from the port of Esbjerg. The two lakes on which the final will be fished are just 25 minute drive from the hotel.
As well as the main prize Embassy are offering £2,000 for the highest individual daily weight and a massive £10,000 bonus if that highest daily weight tops the Embassy Challenge venue record of 244 lbs 1oz set by Warrington's Jimmy Byrne in 1997.
