SUE Hatfield, Isobel Whitaker and Sue Wood celebrated their return to golf after knee operations with the yellow ball prize day.
The event, played in drawn teams of three, was won by Jill Parfitt, Betsy Riley and Sue Bairstow (73 points). The runners up were Liz Downs, Sue Wood and Margaret Pack (70). Third place went to Marjorie Bradley, Maggy Mitchell and Lorna Deakin.
The Sowden 36 hole Trophy played the following week was won by Gill Bean. The runner up was Liz Webster. In the extra medal competition, the winner in division one was Liz Webster (95-19-76), the runner up was Pam Blackburn (97-19-78). In division two the winner was Gill Bean (103-27-76) and second was Margaret Dodds (102-25-77).
In the matches the Scratch Team began with a good home win against Northcliffe 41/2-21/2. The winners were Judy Sherwin, Pat Wright, Sally Ognall and Brenda Dale. Maureen Schofield halved her match. However, in the return match at Northcliffe the team lost 4-3. The winners were Linda Burrows, Judy Sherwin and Brenda Dale.
The A team lost their away match at Knaresborough 5-2 in heavy rain. The winners were Sally Ognall and Brenda Dale.
The B team are playing well away from home. They halved their match against Bedale 31/2-31/2, the winners were Liz Webster, Sue Hatfield, Jill Parfitt. Ann Gillom halved her match. They also won against Bridlington (5-2) and the winners were Marjorie Bradley, Sue Hatfield, Joyce Bennett and Maggy Mitchell. Liz Webster and Jill Parfitt halved their matches.
Outside successes include the selection of Marilyn Brand to the England team at the Under-16s Scottish Girls Open.
In April the lady captain Lorna Deakin and her team, consisting of Daphne Hawkins and Jill Parfitt, together with their professional, Peter Robinson, played in the Brough Pro-Am and in heavy rain came in joint second. Peter was joint second in the Pro's competition.
Vale Royal Golf Club in Cheshire was the venue for the Lady Taverners charity day. The winners of the am-am competition were Sally Ognall, Judy Sherwin, Peter Robinson and James Hepworth.
