AN ADVENTURE which began with a story and photograph in the Keighley News in May 1955, ended in Aukland, New Zealand on May 21, 1999 when Susie Walsh (nee Hampton) formerly of Cross Roads and Haworth passed away peacefully with four of her sons in attendance.
The KN report told of how the family were leaving these shores to join a member of the family already in Australia.
Susie grew up in Clarendon Street, Haworth and worked in Heald Bros mill when she left school.
At the aged of 20 she married Raymond Walsh, from Cross Roads, and they had eight children over the next 16 years.
After the war Raymond worked for Dean Smith & Grace before the family e,migrated to Australia in 1995.
Eventually they settled in Aukland, New Zealand where Susie had been very happy until her death last week. Her husband Raymond passed away in 1977.
She had remained in contact with several of her old friends all this time in Haworth, Cross Roads and Keighley and her passing away will be felt by many.
In a strange twist of fate, her good friend and cousin by marriage, Nora Liddemore, formerly of Keighley and Oxenhope died in Queensland, Australia on the same day, just a few hours apart, at the age of 89.
Susie had just celebrated her 85th birthday on April 23. Her funeral service was well attended with the small chapel full.
The point of contact for her family is her son Bill Walsh at 43, Parr Terrace, Milford, Aukland, New Zealand.
