The 150th anniversary of Anne Bront's death will be commemorated by a series of events.

The Bront Society is organising three separate events during the weekend at St Michael and All Angels Church, Haworth to mark the death of Anne, pictured right. She died aged 29 with her most well-known work being The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

On Friday, June 4, Steeton Male Voice Choir will perform Anne's poem The Narrow Way, which was set to music by Haworth church's former organist and choirmaster the late Jack Rhodes. The poem will form part of a set which the choir will perform from 7.30pm onwards. Tickets are £5.

On Saturday the annual service will take place at 11am with the Rev Paul Slater giving the address. Following the service the annual lecture will take place at 3pm with Dr Edward Chitham giving a lecture entitled Nature, Art and Religion: A Commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the death of Anne Bront.

Both events are free and everyone is welcome. Tickets for the concert are available from the Society office at 74 Main Street in Haworth. For details phone Jill Greenwood on 01535 644333 or check out the Society's website at http//www/bronte.org.uk.

The special qualities of Anne Bront will be addressed during a free lecture at the Bront Parsonage Museum today. Novelist Stevie Davies will discuss the life and work of a woman who constantly lived in the shadow of her sisters Charlotte and Emily.

Dr Davies, who has written four books on Bront subjects, will speak at 2pm in the old school room, Church Street, Haworth, next to the Parsonage. Phone 01535 642323 for details.
