A man who carried out a series of raids at building societies across the country - including one at Keighley - has been jailed for 14 years.
Charity worker Christopher Frank Wood, 53, of no fixed abode, stole more than £38,000 during a two-and-a-half-year reign of terror, Stafford Crown Court was told this week.
Wood - who became known as the 'flat cap robber' - pleaded guilty to two attempted robberies, 14 robberies and 16 related charges of possessing an imitation firearm with intent. He asked for more than 30 further offences - inc-luding a raid at the Alliance and Leicester Buil-ding Society in North Street, Keighley, in Dec-ember 1995 - to be taken into consideration.
The court heard that Wood, 53, of no fixed abode, had used his haul on everyday living and to stave off attempts to evict him from a council house.
