A man has been arrested following an attack on a 37-year-old father-of-two who is fighting for his life in hospital.

Detectives were today questioning the man following his arrest in Skipton two days after Trevor Capstick was attacked and punched in Greatwood Avenue in the town.

Mr Capstick, of Skipton, is today critical in Leeds General Infirmary where he has serious head injuries and has undergone two major operations following his transfer from Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, where he was rushed on Sunday.

His partner, Patricia Allen, who works at Johnson and Johnson in Gargrave, is keeping a vigil at his hospital bedside.

Inspector Ron Johnson, of Skipton police, said: "A man was arrested last night in Skipton and is assisting with inquiries.

"He is still being interviewed and so far no charges have been put.

"At this stage we are not releasing his identity."

He urged people to come forward with information about the attack which happened at 6.45pm on Sunday, after Mr Capstick left the Horse Close pub.

"We have already received some information as a result of our appeal in the Press yesterday, but we urge anyone else who has information to come forward," he said.

It is understood that Mr Capstick - who is separated from his wife - was involved in an argument in the public house earlier in the day, although staff said they were unaware of any trouble.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone Skipton police on 01756 793377.
