Nathan McAvoy believes the Bulls coaching team are major players in getting his career back on track.

The Bulls' £140,000 capture arrived at Odsal low on confi-dence after failing to fulfil his early promise with his home-town club Salford but slowly and surely the strapping centre is beginning to make his mark again.

His performance against Hudders-field Giants last week was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise low key display especially y on defence - an area of his game which has frequently come under fire.

A change of scenery appears to have done the trick and McAvoy is the first to accept he had gone somewhat stale at the Willows after five years with the Reds.

"I should have moved on a couple of years earlier and coming here was exactly the right move.

"Looking back I wasn't really coached at Salford. I just worked relied on what I picked up. There was noo defined structure at all.

"I had a strong game on attack and was picking up tries from just about everywhere but there was no real consistency to my game especially on defence."

The change in coaching philosophy was a real eye opener when he arrived at Odsal and he believes he is really feeling the benefit of the Bulls attention to detail.

"Every area has to be improved to make the grade here, particularly my defence.

"I have done a lot of work on that. The coaching staff have identified and sorted out the differences and with that comes confidence.

"I have had a lot more personal coaching here and that has helped me appreciate what makes an all round player."

Recent games have seen McAvoy renwe his old Willows centre partnership with Scott Naylor but with Nick Zisti waiting in the wings and Phil Howlett due to arrive shortly from Australia, he knows he must continue to show a steady improvement.

"Having Scott there gives it a familiar feeling. We were alongside each other for four years and we know how each other is going to react in any given situation.

"I made no secret of the fact that wing was not my favoured position.

"I was delighted when Matthew Elliott told me recently that he was moving me into the centre.

"I was determined to take the chance and I've not looked back since."
