Addingham's Millennium gala could be a no-show unless volunteers can be found in the next few weeks.

A warning has been issued that the gala is under threat once again only a year after its successful revival. The man largely responsible for bringing the event back to life last year has told villagers not to expect others to carry out all the hard work.

Don Barrett, former chairman of Addingham Civic Society, led calls for the gala to be revived after a lack of support meant there was no event in 1998.

However, a new gala committee was formed and volunteers worked hard to organise a packed programme for the July gala.

Now Mr Barrett is concerned that success should not be wasted due to apathy on the part of those who think the gala organisation is the responsibility of others. "We need volunteers before it is too late," he said.
