Rugby Union: Keighley 12, Ilkley 14.
Ilkley notched a fine victory in this club match yesterday, bridging a gap of three divisions.
They were never behind, triumphing by two converted tries to a converted try and a try.
The Yorkshire Division One club's first score came from an open-side break from a scrum by skipper Michael Carr, who added the conversion himself.
Keighley replied with a try by full back gary Davey, who profited from a fine 30-yard break by centre Peter Lee-Gallon.
Before half-time, however, Ilkley managed a pushover try, Carr again converting to make it 14-5.
The only score of the second half came from keighley lock Peter Southgate, following a set-piece tap penalty move.
After a drive, the ball was set again and Southgate broke through two tackles to score, Matt Gaffney adding the conversion.
Keighley lost prop Tyrone Adam with an ankle injury in the second half, but fellow South African Duane Wallis was impressive at flanker.
lSale used their greater expertise to see off Second Division title-chasers Leeds 13-3 in a scrappy, ill-tempered Tetley's Bitter Cup fourth round tie at Headingley yesterday.
Centre Andy Blyth became the first player to breach the Tykes' tryline for almost two months.
Converted for the new archive on 30 June 2000. Some images and formatting may have been lost in the conversion.
